How to Build a 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 Battery with EVE LF100LA Cells
0 views

Quick answer: Connect four 3.2V EVE LF100LA 100Ah LiFePO4 cells in series (4S) to make a 12.8V 100Ah, 1.28kWh battery. You also need a 4S LiFePO4 BMS rated above your maximum current (for example 100A for a 1,000W inverter), the supplied bus bars, a main fuse, proper cables and lugs, and a sturdy enclosure. Top-balance the cells to the same voltage before connecting them.

Parts list

  • 4 × EVE LF100LA 3.2V 100Ah cells (bus bars and M6 bolts included at Alobari)
  • 4S LiFePO4 BMS — continuous rating above your load current; 12V × 100A ≈ 1,200W
  • Main fuse or DC breaker near the positive terminal
  • Battery cable (e.g. 16–25mm² for 100A) with crimped lugs
  • Enclosure with compression (end plates or straps) and insulation sheets
  • Multimeter; optional capacity tester or active balancer

Step-by-step

  1. Check each cell: measure voltage — they should be close (within ~0.05V).
  2. Top-balance: connect all cells in parallel and charge to 3.60–3.65V with a bench supply, or leave them in parallel for 24h so voltages equalise.
  3. Arrange in series: place cells in a row alternating + and −; use bus bars to join cell 1 (−) to cell 2 (+), cell 2 (−) to cell 3 (+) and cell 3 (−) to cell 4 (+); torque bolts to the datasheet value and do not over-tighten.
  4. Wire the BMS: balance leads first (B−, B1, B2, B3, B+) in order, then the main negative.
  5. Fuse and terminals: fuse on the positive output; insulate exposed metal.
  6. Test: confirm ~13.0–13.4V at rest, then charge with a LiFePO4 profile (14.2–14.4V) and check the BMS cuts off correctly.

Charging settings

Setting12.8V LiFePO4 (4S)
Bulk/absorb14.2–14.4V
Float13.4–13.6V (or off)
Low-voltage cut-off~11.0–12.0V

EPEVER TRC MPPT controllers have a LiFePO4 profile — e.g. TRC3210 or TRC4210.

Going bigger: 24V and 48V

8 cells in series (8S) give 25.6V 100Ah (2.56kWh); 16 cells (16S) give 51.2V 100Ah (5.12kWh) — the common choice for 48V solar and easy-bike conversions. Use a BMS matching the series count.

Safety

  • Never short the terminals — a 100Ah cell can deliver hundreds of amps.
  • Do not solder to cell terminals; use the bolts and bus bars.
  • Keep the pack away from direct sun and moisture.
